I went on the Rural Development Exchange that was put on by Augustana University College and Canada World Youth. On this exchange I was given the opportunity to live and work in Mexico. I lived with a family in a rural village called San Andres de la Cal. I love my Mexican friends and now many of my other friends that I know from around the world. They are what inspries me. My life changed from that day on because I realized when you lose just one parent, it feels like your world has come to an end. I never looked at my mother, single parents or widows the same way since. My heart’s desire is to open up a safe haven for such kids to call home. If you still have one of your parents, please appreciate him/her because you still have it better than some of the kids in an orphanage.
